Finding “Moose Lodge”

I’m dying to tell the whole story, but not yet. I want to wait for the deal to close. There is a lot all happening at once.

Two weeks ago, I started a new role through Middlerock as President of Infrrd.AI’s Professional Services division that is turning into a separate, focused division of Infrrd.AI. I’m out to build an even more wonderful company and that has been my focus as I learn all I can about the organization and the core “first problem” as I like to call it. I’ll work from there.

Infrrd was a Middlerock client beginning in 2018, and so it was a case where I already knew some on the leadership team. I’ve long admired the CEO and he’s a great guy to work with.

In parallel to all this, I’ve been on this amazing journey around the central part of the US beginning in late May. I wanted to learn more about what was in our great country and it’s been an adventure of a lifetime.

In doing so, I was also looking at houses as I was constantly asking myself, what’s the perfect house? Where can I find perfect? What is that exactly? Is it a house in the city, country, on a lake, in the woods, or does it have a view? I didn’t have one good answer, and I’m guessing in these months, I’ve easily looked at 10,000 houses via Zillow. That’s a very low estimate. It could be twice that. I’d start with an entire state on Zillow and list from most expensive and just work my way down into my price range, or sometimes I’d set a range, or sort by most recent. I was looking at various filters, and other criteria to weed out what was the right house in that area. It was tedious, but a way to pass the time.

I wanted to learn it all. From that, I looked at several dozen houses in person and in all but two cases, the houses never lived up to the photos. The first house was wonderful, but it didn’t meet my criteria. I loved the place as a retreat, but it wasn’t compelling enough to make an offer. It’s hard to make a photo both sell a house, and not over, or understate, what you will see in person. They always put in those photos that leave out the weird hall or some other oddity that makes it a big NO!

Then it happened. I discovered a remarkable house that fit every criteria and then some. I made an offer, they accepted, and I even bought the furniture. In honor of Mathilda, I’ve named the place “Moose Lodge.” It closes in a few weeks. I don’t want to say a lot just yet, but know that I’ve not been idle since I stopped posting videos. I’m also not on Quora as much because I’ve been in the middle of this amazing adventure. Twenty-four days to go!
